Preveli

The Preveli Monasteries are situated in some of the most beautiful countryside on the south coast of Crete. The backdrop of the Old Monastery consists of mountains and gorges, while the New Monastery (new is a relative term here) overlooks the sea. The area is popular with tourists, many of whom enjoy walking along the side of the river that runs down to the sea. It is also popular with Greeks, especially on May Day, a traditional holiday, when Greek families can be found sitting under the olive trees eating and drinking and enjoying the fine spring weather.
